Fodder beets can now be harvested and stored as efficiently as maize

In most places, fodder beets have a higher yield per hectare than maize, but they are not used so much any more because of the labour involved in harvesting and feeding. This problem can now be overcome by a newly developed beet harvester.

The new machine harvests, cleans and cuts root and top of the fodder beets in one working procedure. The beets are then ready to be transported and ensiled together with maize. The machine, which at the moment is being tested in Denmark, is developed by the Danish machine factory Tim-Thyregod A/S in cooperation with a local contractor and DLF-TRIFOLIUM.

Holland’s most famous park resowed with Microclover

Several lawns in Holland’s most famous Park, The Vondelpark, has been resowed with Microclover mixtures.

Innoseeds advised the contractor in charge of the maintenance and the local authorities to sow the Microclover lawn mixture "Match Microclover" because of several advantages. "First of all we chose a Microclover mixture because we want a green lawn all year round, but also because it gives fewer problems with fungi diseases and weed. Microclover also has a big advantage in an environmental aspect because less fertiliser is used", says Mr Menno van the Bos, who is in charge of the maintenance of The Vondelpark.

Natural vs. artificial turf grass

ESA (European Seed Association) has produced what is probably the most up-to-date comparison available for natural versus artificial turf for sports and leisure applications. The report presents in clear, factual detail the reasons why experts believe natural turf to be the best long-term solution for the industry.

The evidence is clear - natural turf grass is better for the environment, healthier and safer for the players, the most cost-effective alternative to install and maintain, and the majority of football players and even spectators prefer it.
The ESA report also shows that dedicated research and development of grass seed breeders has ensured a healthy future for natural turf. Natural grass solutions that can tackle pitch problems such as shade, air circulation and persistency in almost every situation, however extreme the conditions, are now available.

DLF-TRIFOLIUM has been actively involved in working out this report. Download the full report here (pdf) or read it on www.euroseeds.org.
